Cosmo Automated Publishing Services Content Policy
Effective Date: September 18, 2026
This Content Policy applies to manuscripts and other customer-provided materials submitted for Cosmo Publishing’s Automated Publishing Services.
Cosmo Publishing supports a broad range of fiction and nonfiction, including mature, controversial, disturbing, or otherwise challenging subject matter. A manuscript is not automatically ineligible merely because it contains profanity, violence, sexual content, criminal behavior, offensive dialogue, or difficult themes.
However, some content is not suitable for Cosmo Publishing’s automated workflows. Submitted materials may be screened for potential policy issues before or during processing.
1. Generally Eligible Content
The following content does not, by itself, make a manuscript ineligible:
- Strong language or profanity.
- Mature themes.
- Romance involving adults.
- Lawful sexual relationships between adults.
- Non-graphic or moderately explicit consensual sexual activity between adults.
- Violence, combat, murder, crime, suspense, or horror.
- Drug or alcohol use within a narrative.
- Abuse, trauma, grief, war, discrimination, or other difficult subject matter presented as part of a legitimate work.
- Characters who express offensive, hateful, immoral, or disturbing views.
- Historical depictions of objectionable conduct or beliefs.
- Religious, social, or political themes.
- Other mature material presented as part of a legitimate literary, fictional, educational, historical, journalistic, or informational work.
Depiction of conduct or ideas does not necessarily mean endorsement of them.
2. Content That May Require Administrative Review
Some material may require additional review before an Automated Publishing Service can proceed. Examples include:
- Highly explicit sexual content.
- Extremely graphic or prolonged violence, torture, mutilation, or gore.
- Graphic descriptions of sexual violence.
- Highly explicit fetish material.
- Material whose dominant purpose appears to be the presentation of highly explicit sexual content.
- Detailed descriptions of dangerous, criminal, or harmful conduct that could create safety concerns when processed through automated systems.
- Material whose context or purpose cannot be reliably determined through automated screening.
A manuscript identified for review is not automatically considered a violation.
The affected service may be placed on administrative hold while Cosmo Publishing reviews the relevant material.
3. Content Not Eligible for Automated Publishing Services
Cosmo Publishing’s Automated Publishing Services are not available for material that includes or is primarily intended to provide:
- Pornographic content that falls outside Cosmo Publishing’s accepted publishing scope.
- Sexual content involving minors.
- Sexualization, abuse, or sexual exploitation of minors.
- Material promoting or facilitating child sexual exploitation.
- Non-consensual sexual material presented primarily for sexual gratification.
- Material that promotes, encourages, or meaningfully facilitates terrorism or violent extremist activity.
- Detailed operational instructions intended to facilitate serious violent wrongdoing or serious criminal activity.
- Material intended to meaningfully facilitate suicide or serious self-harm.
- Targeted threats, harassment, or incitement of violence against identifiable individuals or groups.
- Content that Cosmo Publishing cannot lawfully process.
- Other material that cannot reasonably be processed through the selected Automated Publishing Service because of legal, safety, technical, or service limitations.
4. Other Publishers, Retailers, Distributors, and Platforms
Eligibility under this Content Policy applies only to Cosmo Publishing’s Automated Publishing Services.
Cosmo Publishing’s acceptance or processing of submitted material does not represent, warrant, or guarantee that the material will be accepted, published, distributed, sold, promoted, or otherwise permitted by any publisher, retailer, distributor, marketplace, social-media platform, advertising platform, or other third party.
Each third party may maintain its own content standards, publishing requirements, distribution rules, and eligibility criteria. Those requirements may differ from Cosmo Publishing’s Content Policy and may change independently.
A determination that material is eligible for Cosmo Publishing’s Automated Publishing Services does not mean that the material is eligible for publication or distribution anywhere else.
Customers remain responsible for determining and complying with the requirements of any third party through which they choose to publish, distribute, market, advertise, or otherwise use material produced through a Cosmo Publishing service.
5. Automated Screening and Administrative Review
Cosmo Publishing may use automated systems to identify material that may require review under this Content Policy.
An automated flag does not constitute a final determination that the manuscript violates this Policy.
When a potential issue is detected:
- The affected service may be placed on administrative hold.
- The administrative review notice should identify the relevant Content Policy category.
- Where technically possible, the notice should provide a short searchable excerpt or other precise manuscript location marker so that the administrator can locate the relevant passage efficiently.
- A Cosmo Publishing administrator reviews the identified material and determines whether the service may proceed.
The automated screening system does not make the final eligibility decision.
6. Customer Representation
During the intake process, the customer must select the statement that applies to the submitted manuscript:
I have reviewed the Content Policy and confirm that this manuscript complies with the eligibility requirements.
This manuscript may contain material that does not comply with the Content Policy.
A customer who indicates that the manuscript may not comply will not be permitted to proceed with the applicable Automated Publishing Services through the standard intake process.
7. Undisclosed Policy Violations
If a customer confirms that submitted material complies with this Content Policy and subsequent administrative review determines that the material violates the Policy, Cosmo Publishing may decline or discontinue the affected service.
The applicable service fee may be non-refundable where the service cannot be performed because submitted material violates this Content Policy contrary to the customer’s intake representation, subject to the Automated Publishing Services Terms & Conditions and applicable law.
A Content Policy issue affecting one service does not necessarily prevent other eligible services in the same order from proceeding.
8. Cosmo Publishing’s Right to Decline Processing
Cosmo Publishing reserves the right to decline, suspend, or discontinue an Automated Publishing Service when submitted material cannot reasonably be processed because of:
- this Content Policy;
- applicable law;
- safety requirements;
- requirements applicable to the selected service or its intended use;
- technical limitations; or
- limitations of the selected service.
